Crystal Reports and DEP
19/06/2012 – in Crystal, OS / EnvironmentCrystal Reports, like GoldBox, can sometimes fall foul of Windows’ Data Execution Protection.
The symptoms are that the program fails silently when you try to run it. You will see a second or two of the hour-glass and then nothing.
A look in the system logs will show Event ID 1000.
The solution is to add CRW32.exe to the DEP exeption list. Right-click on ‘My Computer’ or its equivalent, choose Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Protection tab. Use the ‘add’ button to add the .exe file.
